Aircraft Disassembly and Paint Preparation
- The aircraft is disassembled including exterior plastics, engine cowls, and control surfaces. All windows, antennas, pressurized seals and boots are taped off and isolated from the stripping process. Aircraft is completely hand stripped, including behind all control surfaces and inspection panel lips.
- The aircraft is then inspected for any stripper residue. Special attention is paid to all seams, gear bays, and areas where residue could collect. We do not atomize our paint stripping products to ensure the stripper stays out of areas it cannot be recovered.
- The aircraft is then acid washed with 3M Scotch Brite using PPG DX533 acid wash aluminum conditioner.
- This process is an aluminum cleansing method which opens up the pores in the aluminum and allows the impurities to be cleaned out.
- DX533 must not be allowed to dry on the aluminum surface . Allowing the product to dry could cause corrosion.
- Magnesium control surfaces are treated with Dupont 13238S epoxy magnesium pretreatment in place of DX533.
- Mechanically scrub airframe/controls with PPG DX503 alodine treatment to promote
adhesion to primer. - Sherwin Williams high solids corrosion resistant epoxy primer is ready to be applied to
the prepared aluminum within 24 hours of acid wash and alodine treatment. This is
then allowed to cure for 48 hours and then scuffed by hand with 3M Scotch brite to
promote an ultra smooth finish and to further promote adhesion.
- Application of Sherwin Williams Acry-Glo top coat leaves a factory looking shine.
- All stripe lines and N numbers can be wet sanded and buffed to a smooth transition at
the Customer's request for an additional cost.
- The aircraft then is reassembled with the option of new hardware kits starting at $200.
- Control surfaces are balanced, reinstalled, and checked for proper rigging
